Internal brachytherapy

Product overview

Iodine-125 Seed Brachytherapy Consultation
Suitable audience and clinical questions: Selected lung, liver, prostate, head-and-neck, recurrent, residual, or metastatic lymph-node lesions requiring local-control discussion.

Clinical purpose

Iodine-125 seed brachytherapy is a form of image-guided internal radiotherapy. Tiny radioactive seeds are placed directly into the tumor area so low-energy radiation can be released continuously inside the lesion, creating a focused local-control discussion for selected residual, recurrent, or metastatic sites.

Core treatment principles

Image-guided implantation

Rice-grain-sized Iodine-125 seeds are planned and implanted under imaging guidance according to lesion location, target volume, and nearby organ constraints.

Continuous local radiation

The seeds release low-energy gamma rays over an extended period, commonly discussed in the range of 120 to 180 days depending on the clinical plan.

High local dose with limited spread

The clinical aim is a higher radiation dose inside the tumor region while keeping surrounding normal-tissue exposure low when anatomy allows.

Clinical scenarios from the treatment matrix

  • Selected localized solid tumors, including lung, liver, prostate, and head-and-neck lesions.
  • Postoperative residual disease or local recurrence requiring a salvage-treatment discussion.
  • Selected metastatic lymph nodes where precise local radiation may be reviewed.
  • Patients who need local-control options after prior surgery, external radiotherapy, or ablation.

Records to prepare

Recent CT / MRI and DICOM files, pathology, staging, prior radiotherapy records, surgery history, blood counts, coagulation results, infection status, pain status, and a clear local-control question.
